I grew up with As the World Turns, and as it fades into television history this week, I am truly sad. My grandmother and grandfather would keep me when I was home from school, and they never missed an episode. It wouldn't be a normal summer day without Bob Barker, the evil Victor, Pam Crittendon on Channel 3, haughty Stephanie Forrester, followed by the wonderful, enigmatic Lucinda on As The World Turns. I might have seen 10 episodes since growing up, but I can still hum the 1980s theme (without looking it up on YouTube). Saying goodbye to the Hughes, Walshes, Steinbecks, Sniders, and Ryans is like saying goodbye to my grandparents again. Even though I wasn't a regular watcher, it was comforting to know the ground-breaking show was always there. The world will turn for the last time today, and I think we are all a little better for taking a ride.
