On Thursday around 6:30 p.m. Jackson police received a call of a woman running into traffic with her hands tied behind her back on N. Highland Ave. at Old Humboldt Rd. Officers arrived and spoke with the 22-year-old woman who told police that she had been attacked and tied up inside her home in the 20 block of Old Humboldt Road. She further told Officers that the man responsible was walking on Ramblewood Dr. Police located the man and detained him while Officers attempted to determine what had happened.
The investigation has revealed that David Jackson, 51, had been doing work for the homeowner and was allowed to live in an out-building behind their house for the past few months. On Thursday evening, Jackson was allowed inside the home. At some point he grabbed the woman, placed her in a choke-hold and demanded car keys. When she couldn't provide them, he tied her hands behind her back and tied her feet to a bed frame while he searched for the keys. After searching he returned, strangled her and threatened her with a box cutter if she lied to him. He then demanded money. She told him to go look inside the car. When she heard him leave out the door, she was able to get her feet loose from the restraints and run for help.
Police charged Jackson with especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. He was arraigned in Jackson City Court on Friday and is being held on $250,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is February 16 in City Court.
Jackson is a registered sex offender who has convictions for rape in 1984, robbery in 2001 and aggravated robbery in 2004, all of which occurred in Shelby County.
