JPD seeks person of interest in arson investigation

Jackson police have identified Demetreous Santiago, 18, as a person of interest in Thursday evening's arson. Shortly after 5 p.m., Jackson Police and Fire Departments responded to a vehicle blaze in the 300 block of Park Ave. Based on the investigation, a gray 2002 Lexus, registered to Charles Jones, of Bartlett, was intentionally set on fire.

On Friday Jackson police were contacted by Bartlett police who was investigating the disappearance of Jones. Further investigation revealed that Jones was killed in Memphis after he was lured by a woman who promised him sex. When he arrived to meet the woman he as shot in the head by Michael Dean. Dean and Santigao put Jones's body in the trunk of his Lexus and headed east down I-40. They were pulled over by authorities at mile marker 27 but were able to flee Memphis authorities. They escaped to Jackson and burned Jones body and car. Dean and Santiago along with Lewis Gibson and Ashley Carver are also wanted for several other murders.

Law enforcement officials have issued a warrant for Santiago's arrest in Shelby County for felony evading arrest by motor vehicle.

Jones' murder is being investigated by the Memphis Police Department Homicide Bureau.

Santiago has ties to Lexington Ave. and Reynolds Dr. in Jackson. He is a black male, 5' 5" in height and weighs 130 pounds. He may possibly have fresh burns on his face.
